Flew one of these with a friend out of KPAO. Great little plane; easy to fly, incredible feeling of openness with the clear sides. It's not that fast, but when you're just cruising around enjoying the view, you don't notice that too much.

There are some great YOU TUBE videos of these planes making some AMAZING short field take-off's and landings. I am not sure if I can add links here - but they are amazing on those big wheels on the most insane terrain. This would be one of my back country dream planes.

Beechcraft 17 Staggerwing »

The staggerwing is one of the most elegant models ever produced, in my opinion. I believe that at the time this was designed Mr. Beech, Mr. Cessna, and Mr. Piper were all working together. Does anybody know those details?

Bellanca CITABRIA 7ECA »

I did all of my tailwheel training in a Citabria and I loved it. It was the first time I had sit in the center of the airplane, for one thing. It really helps you feel as though you are a rider on the machine, it's very intuitive. It was forgiving in the sense that the moment you add power you are off the ground. Not so in an C152 aerobat, for example.

One of the first planes I flew out on the east coast! Incredibly simplistic, but easy and fun to buzz around in.

Cessna 152 »

An airline pilot once told me that the Cessna 152 was his favorite airplane to fly. He said it had the lowest bulls**t to fun ratio. This airplane is reliable, inexpensive, and can be made to provide almost as much speed as an old 172. I've even seen pilots in the SF bay area install full IFR packages to allow them to get in and out of the marine layers.

Cessna 172r »

The Cessna 172 is an amazing airplane and it is ubiquitous on the flight line. These airplanes have helped an incredible number of pilots earn their wings and take to the skies. For new pilots, the Cessna 172 provides the peace of mind unique to an airplane that has such a distinguished history. This airplane has been put through it's paces. Some students find comfort in know that they are learning in one of the worlds most popular aircraft. Seasoned pilots can find used 172s all over and there are some great deals. Or perhaps you are business minded and are interested in purchasing and leasing back a Cessna 172 to a flying club. As long as you aren’t traveling long distances often, this airplane can serve multiple purposes and be a joy to own. It makes a fabulous trainer, as it is forgiving yet not ‘easy’ to fly, and it makes a great personal airplane for those that are looking travel within their region.

Cessna 172sp »

The Cessna 172SP is a great plane for someone with a freshly delivered Private Pilots License. One of the first planes I had ever flown, this aircraft is easy to maneuver and maintain. My flight school utilizes an advanced avionics system and radio navigational system. Flying can be completely done by inputs to the heading indicator, autopilot, and the gps. One thing to watch for is that the Autopilot will send the plane into a stall, so the pilot can not get complacent with their airspeed. The aircraft is very stable and is awesome to take off in. Powerful motor allows for a steep climb out after rotation with the 70knots of airspeed needed. It lands kind of heavy and fast. This can be tough in strong crosswind situations or if you have to land with a tailwind. The controls are very responsive so usually isnt too much of a problem. This aircraft is one of the best I have ever flown and will be one I will look into buying...someday.
