The L-39 is a high-performance jet aircraft, most commonly used for training. The L-39 was designed by Aero Vodochody in Czechoslovakia as a replacement for the L-29. Introduced in 1971, it was manufactured until 1999. The L-39 is one of the most popular jet aircraft trainers in the world, in use by over 30 air forces. It was succeeded by the L-159. A number of L-39s are also in private hands, providing a fighter-like experience at a fraction of the cost.
