We're based in the SOMA area of San Francisco. We're a small team, and are looking for exceptional people to help us not only get stuff done today, but help us grow our team over the coming years.
Front-end Guru
Build the face where some of the most passionate communities in the world come together online. Help create a destination and experience that will draw people in with wonder and leave them excited to return tomorrow for more.
We're a new startup focused on building a new model for entertainment, community, and data. We're trying to take on what people are into (on and offline) and improve it 100x. Sound ambitious? It is, but we have a plan for how we're going to start small and start picking away, day by day. By the way, that plan involves working with some of the coolest enthusiast pursuits known to humankind, from Day 1.
We need someone to:
- Help design the flair and personality of our sites & networks. You'll be working with our design, development, and marketing teams on a daily basis, helping us bring clean, satisfying, cross-browser visions to life.
- We need you to take a design beyond the flat graphics and innovate in the realm of interaction. You'll also be responsible for tweaking what you do for new communities - giving you a new challenge almost monthly.
- Finally, you'll need to be very smart about what you're working on, able to filter, prioritize, and execute - we're moving quickly and expect everyone to do the same. You are joining at a point where your decisions will guide not only our site development but the direction of the company as a whole.
We're currently working out of San Francisco, CA, and provide excellent health coverage and other benefits out of the gate. We believe in hiring a small number of the best people, and providing them with very competitive pay & equity.
The details (what we'll be looking for):
- Proven mastery of CSS, (X)HTML, JavaScript, DOM
- Able to implement AJAX components within Ruby on Rails with ease
- Innovative approach to designing slick, satisfying UI controls - going beyond what we already know
- The thought of making something shine in Firefox, IE6, IE7, and beyond doesn't keep you up at night
- Ability to quickly conceptualize a vision and design into an effective and organized actual implementation, especially including those border cases no one else really nailed
- Strong visual design skills - you'll be working with a design team, but we expect everyone to advocate for excellent design
- Focus on efficacy & efficiency of your initiatives - we want you to find what works, and then make it work even better
- Desire to work hand-in-hand with design, development, and marketing experts on the team
- Intense love of problems, puzzles, quizzes, and other ways to challenge yourself
- Ability to brainstorm new concepts, implement upcoming features, and ensure full compatibility when your next release is no more than 3 weeks away
- Previous start up experience a serious plus
- Start date: Yesterday
